The 40th meeting of ITU-R working party 5D, addressing global mobile cellular technologies such as 4G and 5G, concluded with the finalization of a report highlighting the application of 5G technology in facilitating Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) communications for automated vehicles, commonly referred to as 'driverless cars.' Additionally, the meeting emphasized the ongoing work towards creating a new recommendation outlining a global vision for the upcoming 6G technology.

IAFI has formally communicated with the telecom ministry, urging the opening of the high-frequency E band to bolster the 5G network. Additionally, IAFI proposed the delicensing of the V band to support Wi-Fi services. Furthermore, the association recommended the delicensing of 1,100 MHz spectrum within the 6GHz frequency range to encourage the expansion of Wi-Fi services across the country.

It suggests that administratively allocating spectrum for satellite use, instead of through auctions, would be more beneficial for achieving rural broadband connectivity. Further auctioning satellite spectrum could hinder the growth of the satellite industry in India. IAFI highlights the role of satellite broadband in meeting the National Digital Communications Policy's goal of universal broadband connectivity in rural areas and calls for an expedited process to issue spectrum to satellite service providers, there is ongoing competition in India's telecom and satellite communication services sector, with players like Amazon's Project Kuiper, Bharti Enterprises, and Jio Satellite entering the market.

IAFI took part in the 30th meeting of APT Wireless Group (AWG) organized by APT, focusing on emerging wireless systems for the digital convergence era in the Asia-Pacific region. IAFI submitted four contributions related to frequency arrangements for the 600 MHz band for 5G. The AWG-30 meeting accepted IAFI's proposal for the 600 MHz band and initiated a study on new spectrum needs for 6G within the 7GHz to 24 GHz range.
