IAFI has urged for the inclusion of commercial data communication services between aircraft and ground stations within the Unified License regime. They emphasize the need for appropriate technical, security, and operational conditions. Additionally, IAFI proposes that the licensing of such data communication services should be conducted through a distinct service authorization under the Unified License regime, using an administrative licensing procedure.

IAFI has recommended the establishment of a national 6G mission by the government, complete with a fixed budget and timeframe. IAFI organized the 4th national workshop on WRC preparation in New Delhi, where the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) Secretary encouraged stakeholders to enhance their involvement in International Telecommunication Union (ITU) activities. The DoT Secretary emphasized the significance of WRC-23, which is anticipated to determine the agenda for WRC-27, marking the first allocation of spectrum for 6G. IAFI commended the DoT for establishing the National Preparatory Committee for WRC-23.

The 29th meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-29) concluded with the approval of the new APT 600MHz band plan, providing an additional 40+40 MHz prime UHF spectrum. IAFI actively participated by submitting six contributions to AWG-29, addressing various aspects, including proposals for WI-FI-6e. The AWG is also working on a report highlighting the emerging critical applications and uses of 5G in industrial, societal, and enterprise contexts.
