About Event

Wi-Fi has become a lifeline for connecting people when social distancing and work/study from home has become a norm due to COVID pandemic. Increasing demand for Wi-Fi means that regulators need to assign much larger unlicensed spectrum for Wi-Fi. India today has less than a sixth of the quantum of the unlicensed spectrum as compared to the developed economies across the globe while our population is one of the largest in the World.
In the recent days 6 GHz and V band have become available band for unlicensed usage to address this scarcity. The new 6GHz Wi-Fi band will lead to opening up of up to seven new 160 MHz channels. The 6 GHz band could potentially serve as a multi-lane superhighway for the latest Wi-Fi devices. The 6 GHz band comprises frequencies from 5.925 to 7.125 GHz, and the V band from 57 to 71 GHz. The bands support new Wi-Fi versions, Wi-Fi 6E and WiGig, respectively, which offer much higher data speeds and shorter range than previous versions of Wi-Fi.
Countries including the US, Canada, Brazil, Chile, South Korea, Mexico and Saudi Arabia have already delicensed the new 6GHz Wi-Fi. In addition, several countries in the EU have delicensed the lower part of 6GHz for Wi-Fi in 5.925-6.425 GHz. Almost 80 countries, including Australia, Japan and the 27 members of the EU, have delicensed the V band. The delicensing of the 6 GHz band is continuing
It is believed that the opening of the new spectrum basically quadruples the amount of space available for routers and other devices, so it will mean a lot more bandwidth and a lot less interference for any device that can take advantage of it.
